A Mini Summer Vacation Part I

My parents are here to visit us and with rare sunny skies and warm 24°C we I made the decision to drive up north and spend a day at the beach. It has been more than a year now since the last time we saw the ocean, and although the Baltic Sea cannot compete with the North Sea or Atlantic Ocean in the least, it is still better than nothing.
Four days off from work in a row is the most i can get this year, so this day at the beach was kind of like my mini summer vacation. My dad did a search on Google to find a hidden place where i could collect some driftwood and after a one-hour drive we ended up in the middle of nowhere. If you are a city girl like me, you cannot imagine the incredible quietness  of this place. No traffic noise or humans let alone cars. Nothing but the chirping of birds and the soft whistle of the wind. Wonderful!

My driftwood hunt wasn't very successful, there were endless rocks, pebbles and mussel shells instead, and our extended beach picnic with coffee and cake turned out rather short after we got attacked by yucky little black insects.

So we went on to another beach, hoping to get rid of this plague, but no success. The beach was nice and sandy with lots of giant shells, however we were unwilling to pay that inacceptable entrance fee of 16€ total.

There was a cost-free beach just a few minutes away, but parking time was limited to one hour and the sky turned dark and cloudy anyway. Sigh.
Well, at least just enough time for me to dip my toes into the water and take a few photos.

Next stop: Lübeck. Not too impressive except for a pretty town hall, an ok fish sandwich and the most tidy TK Maxx i have ever seen. But we didn't buy anything, drove back home and enjoyed a fresh homemade strawberry quark.

Oh, wait, i forgot to mention the ridiculously overpriced parking fees for a tiny and very shabby parking deck, and the out-of-the-blue-there-comes-a-tunnel-and-you-have-to-pay-for-it-fee. Is anything still free of charge in this stupid country?!? Perhaps we should rename it and call it Feemany instead...

Anyhow, we had a lovely day despite all those fees, fees, fees.
