I've been on the hunt for the perfect fluffy shaggy white rug for our bedroom for a while now, but just couldn't find one i loved. They either had the wrong color or a weird texture; even the rugs with a giant price tag wouldn't work. So i decided to make my own.
Since i wasn't really sure if i would like the result, i started with a smaller, two-toned rug for the kitchen first ( hence all the different yarn colors in the tutorial below), using a giant brown yarn ball that i had kept in my craft drawer for years.
That rug took me roughly three hours to finish; the white rug took three evenings ( 5-6 hours). It's an easy thing to do while sitting on the couch and watching TV.
Schon seit längerem war ich auf der Suche nach dem perfekten flauschigen weissen Teppich fürs Schlafzimmer, aber entweder hatten sie immer die falsche Farbe oder waren aus seltsamen Material. Selbst die ganz teueren waren nicht das was ich mir vorstellte. Also habe ich beschlossen meinen eigenen Teppich zu machen.
Da ich mir nicht sicher war ob ich das Resultat wirklich mögen würde, habe ich erstmal einen kleineren Teppich für die Küche gemacht ( daher die verschiedenen Woll-Farben in den Fotos unten), mit einem riesigen Wollknäuel das ich schon seit Jahren rumliegen hatte.
Der kleine Teppich war innerhalb von 3 Stunden fertig, der weisse Teppich hat so knapp 5-6 Stunden gedauert. Ganz leicht zu machen während man abends gemütlich auf der Couch sitzt und TV guckt.
Ok, so here's what you will need to make your own rug:
Wool Yarn
Baker's Twine
Carpet Underlay
Scissors
Für den DIY Teppich braucht man:
Wolle
Bäckergarn
Teppich-Anti-Rutschmatte
Schere
Instructions:
1. Start by cutting your yarn into pieces of ca. 12 cm. You don't have to measure exactly, as you won't notice slight variations in length, plus you can still trim it once the rug is finished.
Anleitung:
1. Schneide die Wolle in Stücke von jeweils ca 12cm. Man muss nicht genau messen, eher so nach Gefühl und Augenmaß, da man die verschiedenen Längen hinterher nicht sieht, bzw. kann man ja immer noch mal nachschneiden und kürzen wenn der Teppich fertig ist.
Cut a giant pile, and just when you think you have enough, cut the same amount again ;)
Seriously, you will need a lot of yarn. For my white rug, i used 10 balls à 50g.
Für den weissen Teppich habe ich 10 Wollknäule à 50g verbraucht.
2. Make tassels: grab a bunch of those yarn pieces ( 15-20), and tie the center with a piece of Baker's Twine. Make sure to tie as tight as possible, to prevent the yarn pieces from slipping out. Make double knots.
2. Mache Quasten: nimm ca 15-20 Stücke der Wollstreifen, und knote sie in der Mitte mit einem Doppelknoten zusammen. So fest knoten wie möglich, damit die Streifen nicht rausfallen können.
3. Keep making tassels until all the yarn is used up
3. Mache Quasten bis die gesamte Wolle aufgebraucht ist.
4. Double-knot the tassels to the carpet underlay.
4. Knote die Quasten an die Anti-Rutschmatte mit einem Doppelknoten.
And that's all. Your DIY fluffy shaggy rug is finished!
Und das wars auch schon. Innerhalb weniger Stunden ist der Flauschi-Teppich fertig!
It can't be washed in a machine, spot cleaning only. If it gets really dirty, spread it in the bathtub, gently massage with a mild shampoo, rinse off with warm water and let dry over night.
Natürlich kann man ihn nicht in der Maschine waschen. Einzelne Flecken kann man stellenweise mit einem feuchten Lappen wischen, und wenn der Teppich richtig schmutzig wird, einfach in der Badewanne ausbreiten, mit Shampoo einschäumen, anschliessend mit warmen Wasser abspülen und dann über Nacht zum Trocknen so liegen lassen.
